Our client, a leading construction contractor, is seeking an experienced Site Manager to oversee the delivery of a civil engineering project in the Oxford area.
This is an initial 6-month contract opportunity, operating outside IR35, with the potential for further work upon successful project delivery.
The project will predominantly involve excavation works, cable installation and associated civils infrastructure. As such, we are specifically looking for candidates with a strong background in civil engineering, groundworks, utilities, infrastructure, or similar sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management of site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to programme.
- Oversee excavation, trenching, cable installation, reinstatement, and associated civils activities.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, plant, and labour resources.
- Ensure all works are completed in line with project specifications, quality standards, and health & safety requirements.
- Conduct site inspections, toolbox talks, and daily briefings.
- Manage site documentation including RAMS, permits, progress reporting, and site records.
- Liaise with project managers, engineers, clients, and stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Monitor programme performance and proactively address any delays or issues.
- Promote a strong safety culture across the site team.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Site Manager on civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or groundworks projects.
- Strong understanding of excavation, ducting, cable installation, and associated civils activities.
- Demonstrable experience managing subcontractors and self-delivery teams on live construction sites.
- SMSTS Certification.
- CSCS Card.
- First Aid at Work.
- Strong health & safety awareness and site management capability.
- Must be eligible to obtain and pass BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) clearance.
Desirable Requirements
- Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) certification.
- Previous experience delivering projects within defence, MOD, secure, or highly regulated environments.
- Experience managing electrical infrastructure.
- NRSWA or utilities-related project experience.
