About this Role

Commercial Gas Engineer – Luton

Location: Luton, Bedfordshire

Salary: Competitive + Door-to-Door Travel Paid

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

Hours: 40 hours per week

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Commercial Gas Engineer to join a growing, forward-thinking Mechanical & Electrical business, supporting a major long-term retail contract across Luton and the surrounding areas.

The business is currently in the early stages of mobilising a significant new contract and is continuing to expand its engineering and management teams to support its growth.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established yet ambitious SME, working across a portfolio of commercial retail sites, with the chance to become an integral part of the team as the contract develops.

Alongside a competitive salary and door-to-door travel paid, the business offers excellent opportunities for further technical development, additional training and genuine long-term career progression.

The Role

Working as part of an expanding M&E team, you'll be responsible for delivering commercial gas, heating and associated mechanical works across a portfolio of retail sites.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out planned and reactive commercial gas and heating works across retail environments.
  • Servicing, maintaining and repairing commercial boilers and heating systems.
  • Diagnosing faults and completing associated remedial works.
  • Carrying out commercial gas, heating and plumbing installation works.
  • Undertaking commissioning of commercial gas and heating systems where required.
  • Working on commercial plantrooms and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Completing commercial pipework and plumbing works.
  • Carrying out gas safety testing, inspections and relevant compliance documentation.
  • Identifying defects, additional works and potential issues while on site and reporting these appropriately.
  • Completing variations, remedial works and snagging through to completion.
  • Liaising with site teams, operational personnel and the wider engineering and management teams.
  • Working safely and professionally within live retail environments, minimising disruption to staff and customers.
  • Ensuring all works are completed in accordance with RAMS, permits to work and relevant health & safety requirements.
  • Completing all required work-related documentation accurately and within agreed timescales.

About You

We're looking for an experienced commercial engineer who can demonstrate:

  • Strong commercial gas and heating experience.
  • Current commercial gas qualifications, ideally including COCN1 alongside relevant commercial appliance and pipework modules.
  • Experience servicing, maintaining and repairing commercial boilers and heating systems.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability.
  • Commercial gas installation and commissioning experience.
  • Good mechanical pipework and plumbing knowledge.
  • Experience working with associated plantroom equipment.
  • Previous retail or supermarket experience would be advantageous but isn't essential.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a mobile workload.
  • Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
  • Good understanding of construction and engineering health & safety.
  • Adaptable approach with the ability to work within fast-paced operational environments.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Why Join?

Our client is an established, forward-thinking SME specialising in commercial construction, projects and mechanical and electrical engineering services.

The newly awarded retail contract represents an exciting area of growth, with the engineering team and operational structure currently being developed.

For the right engineer, this presents an opportunity to join at an early stage, establish themselves within the team and progress as the business continues to expand.
