APM is the UK's chartered body for the project management profession. It awards the APM PMQ (Project Management Qualification), APM PPQ and the ChPP (Chartered Project Professional), recognised as the senior benchmark in UK project management. For client-side and consultancy senior PM hires, ChPP or APM Member status is increasingly a direct requirement. We assess candidates against the APM competence framework where relevant.
It depends on the role. APM PMQ and PRINCE2 Practitioner are widely accepted at mid-level and above. For client-side and consultancy senior roles, APM ChPP or RICS project management pathway is often expected. On major infrastructure, MSP (Managing Successful Programmes) frequently appears. On site-based contractor PM roles, delivery track record often weighs heavier than formal certification. We match qualification expectations to the brief.
Client-side PMs sit within a developer, corporate occupier or public-sector body, representing the client's interests across a programme. Contractor-side PMs sit inside a main contractor or specialist subcontractor, running delivery on one scheme or a portfolio. Consultancy PMs work for multi-disciplinary PM consultancy firms (including Mace), appointed by a client to provide independent PM across multiple schemes. The skill sets overlap but the commercial dynamics, career trajectories and salary profiles differ.
The Building Safety Act established the Building Safety Regulator, the gateway approval regime for higher-risk residential buildings (HRBs), and new duty-holder roles including the Accountable Person and Building Safety Manager. On any residential project over eighteen metres or seven storeys, PMs now need BSA fluency: gateway process, golden thread, competence declarations. We screen for BSA experience on every residential and mixed-use brief.
CDM 2015 (Construction Design and Management Regulations) defines legal duties on every UK construction project, including roles like Principal Designer and Principal Contractor, and client duties. Any senior construction PM needs working knowledge of their CDM duty-holder responsibilities. On consultancy and client-side briefs, Principal Designer experience is often a direct ask.
A broad 2026 snapshot. Assistant Project Managers typically sit in the 35 to 50 thousand range. Project Managers 55 to 75 thousand. Senior Project Managers 70 to 95 thousand. Project Directors 95 to 140 thousand. Programme Directors above 130 thousand. Interim and contract day rates typically run 400 to 800 depending on seniority, sector and NEC/JCT requirement. Yes. We recruit PMs across commercial, residential and mixed-use, healthcare (NHS and private), education, industrial and logistics, infrastructure, data centres, life sciences, retail, hospitality and public-sector frameworks. Sector specialism matters. A healthcare PM running an HTM-governed scheme needs different experience to a commercial fit-out PM.
Most PM shortlists are delivered within 48 hours. Senior briefs such as Project Directors, Programme Directors or client-side Heads of Delivery typically take five to seven working days. Security-cleared and niche roles take longer, and we will tell you upfront rather than rushing a weak shortlist.
Ninety-one per cent of our PM placements remain in post at twelve months. That comes from quality over volume, honest briefing conversations and a willingness to turn away briefs we cannot deliver well. Volume-led recruitment cannot hit that number.
