About this Role

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Regional Maintenance & Engineering Manager to oversee the delivery of maintenance services across a large-scale retail estate.

This role is responsible for managing a team of multi-skilled engineers and specialist subcontractors, ensuring both reactive and planned maintenance activities are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with agreed KPIs and service levels.

The position requires a strong on-the-ground presence, particularly for high-priority or complex issues, alongside effective remote coordination of engineering resources across a geographically dispersed region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee maintenance operations across a large retail portfolio within the South Wales to West London region
  • Lead and support a team of 3 direct reports (multi-skilled engineers), alongside a network of subcontractors
  • Coordinate and manage reactive maintenance issues, including escalations and critical incidents on-site (e.g. plant room failures, HVAC breakdowns, faults)
  • Ensure effective delivery of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes
  • Take ownership of service delivery performance against KPIs and SLAs
  • Attend sites as required, particularly for high-priority issues or where additional oversight is needed
  • Oversee subcontractor performance, ensuring quality, compliance, and value for money
  • Maintain strong relationships with client stakeholders and provide regular performance updates
  • Ensure all works are carried out in line with health & safety regulations and company standards

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in a regional or multi-site maintenance/service management role within retail or FM environments
  • Strong technical understanding of HVAC systems, with a working knowledge of maintenance
  • Experience managing both direct engineers and subcontractor networks
  • Demonstrable experience delivering both reactive and planned maintenance services
  • Strong understanding of KPI/SLA management and service performance improvement
  • Ability to manage a geographically dispersed workforce effectively
  • Hands-on approach with a willingness to attend sites when required
  • Excellent organisational and diary management skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities

Desirable

  • Relevant technical qualifications in mechanical, HVAC, or electrical disciplines
  • Experience working within large-scale retail environments
  • Knowledge of compliance and statutory maintenance requirements

Key Attributes

  • Proactive and solutions-focused
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, reactive environment
  • High level of accountability and ownership
  • Able to balance strategic oversight with hands-on involvement
