We are currently recruiting for an experienced Multi-Skilled FM Engineer to join their expanding team. This role will support a national retail contract, delivering both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance services across multiple retail sites.
This is a mobile position suited to an engineer with a strong background in mechanical and building services maintenance, alongside F-Gas certification and the ability to undertake a broad range of general FM tasks. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the safe and efficient operation of client facilities, responding to breakdowns, carrying out planned maintenance, and ensuring high standards of service delivery across a diverse retail estate.
The role requires a proactive and customer-focused engineer who can work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain excellent communication with both clients and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities across multiple retail sites.
- Respond to reactive maintenance call-outs and breakdowns in a timely and professional manner.
- Diagnose and repair faults across a range of mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration, and building services systems.
- Undertake maintenance and repairs to air conditioning systems in line with F-Gas regulations.
- Perform general mechanical maintenance including pumps, motors, pipework, valves, and associated plant equipment.
- Carry out basic electrical fault finding and repairs where appropriate.
- Complete general building fabric maintenance including minor repairs and remedial works.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in accordance with statutory regulations, health and safety requirements, and company procedures.
- Accurately complete service reports, maintenance records, and compliance documentation.
- Liaise with site contacts and management teams to provide updates on works and identify further maintenance requirements.
- Support subcontractors and specialist service providers when required.
- Participate in the on-call rota and provide out-of-hours support where necessary.
Travel & Working Pattern
- Mobile role covering multiple retail locations within the designated region.
- Regular travel between sites will be required.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, or overnight stays when operational requirements dictate.
- Participation in an on-call rota is required.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience working within a Facilities Management or Building Services environment.
- Strong mechanical maintenance background with experience maintaining commercial building services equipment.
- Valid F-Gas certification.
- Experience carrying out both reactive maintenance and planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
- Good working knowledge of HVAC systems, air conditioning, refrigeration, and associated plant.
- Basic electrical fault-finding and maintenance skills.
- Ability to diagnose faults and provide effective solutions with minimal supervision.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and safe systems of work.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Flexible approach to travel and working hours.
Desirable Qualifications
- City & Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Building Services, or a related discipline.
- HVAC or Refrigeration qualifications.
- Experience working within retail or commercial environments.
- IPAF, PASMA, or other relevant industry certifications.
