About this Role

ROLE PURPOSE


  • The purpose of this role is to provide health and safety advice and support to colleagues and contractors working across the project.
  • The position supports the Health & Safety Manager and Senior Leadership Team in establishing and maintaining the highest standards of health and safety performance.


ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Support the Health & Safety Manager in delivering project health and safety objectives.
  • Provide advice and support on all health and safety related matters to colleagues and contractors on site.
  • Advise on compliance with the organisation’s health and safety management system and relevant UK legislation, including CDM Regulations and Work at Height Regulations.
  • Attend site regularly to positively engage with colleagues and the supply chain on health and safety matters.
  • Carry out documented site inspections and joint inspections with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Support project and construction teams in delivering safety briefings, presentations, and toolbox talks.
  • Review safe systems of work, including Risk Assessments and Method Statements, where formal health and safety input is required.
  • Provide support and guidance during accident and incident investigations and ensure all reporting systems are updated accordingly.
  • Undertake health and safety evaluations of supplier and subcontractor bids alongside procurement colleagues.
  • Produce safety communications, including lessons learned, briefings, and toolbox talks following incidents or identified trends.
  • Work closely with teams such as Traffic Management and Community Engagement to help resolve operational health and safety issues.
  • Provide advice and support on facilities-related health and safety matters, including fire safety, building compliance, and security issues.
  • Work collaboratively with administrative teams to ensure accurate and timely health and safety documentation and reporting.


EXPERIENCE / CRITERIA

Essential

  • Previous experience in construction health and safety, ideally on major infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent).
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).



Desirable

  • Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH or above).
  • Experience working within rail or infrastructure environments
