Mitie has been awarded a new multi-year security contract with Asda, delivering services across over 1,100 locations nationwide including Superstores, Supermarkets, Living and Express stores. The agreement builds on Mitie’s existing relationship with Asda, having already provided security across Asda’s logistics estate since July 2019.

The contract is designed to help Asda transition further towards a data-led, outcome-focused security model, with measures including:

• Flexible guarding to direct resources to higher-need locations

• Store detectives to target theft using data insights

• A dedicated 24/7 central operations hub providing remote monitoring across the estate

Mitie also confirmed that more than 2,000 colleagues will transfer under TUPE, supported by advanced SIA training and specialist CCTV training. The company added a package of employee benefits including free Mitie shares and 24/7 access to a free multi-language virtual GP service, among others.

On sustainability, Mitie will integrate an initial 67 electric vehicles into the contract, aligning with Asda’s environmental ambitions.

Mitie’s Jason Towse said the partnership will help “enhance store safety for both colleagues and customers,” while Asda’s Liz Evans noted a rise in retail crime and outlined the move to a “technology enhanced security presence” supported by a 24/7 hub.
