Balfour Beatty Living Places has secured a £900m highways maintenance term contract following a joint procurement by Warwickshire County Council, Coventry City Council and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. The combined arrangement brings three local authority networks under one delivery model for planned and reactive highways upkeep.
The contract is due to run from May 2026 to May 2033, with the option to extend by up to a further six years, taking the potential end date to 2039. Construction Enquirer reports Balfour Beatty beat rival bids from M Group Highways and Ringway Infrastructure Services.
Under the deal, Balfour Beatty Living Places will be responsible for maintaining and improving the combined highway networks across the three areas, covering roads, structures and associated assets. The councils said the joint approach is intended to drive better value for money, improve network condition and road safety, reduce disruption for road users, and cut environmental impact.
A standstill period runs until 19 January, with contract signature expected in early February, ahead of a May start.
