Location: London – Hybrid

Job Type: Permanent | Full Time

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Security Design Manager to join a major UK infrastructure programme, supporting the delivery of complex, nationally significant engineering and construction works.

This is a technically focused design management role, taking responsibility for the coordination, integration and assurance of physical and electronic security systems across a complex portfolio of infrastructure assets.

Working within a highly multidisciplinary environment, you will collaborate with engineering teams, specialist security consultants, designers, contractors, suppliers and key stakeholders to ensure security requirements are successfully incorporated throughout the design lifecycle.

The Role

As Security Design Manager, you will:

  • Lead and coordinate security design activities across allocated infrastructure assets and work packages.
  • Manage security designs from concept and detailed design through construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
  • Ensure security requirements are captured and integrated into multidisciplinary design packages.
  • Coordinate the design and integration of systems including CCTV/VSS, access control, intruder detection, perimeter protection, security lighting, intercoms, barriers and control systems.
  • Work closely with civil, structural, architectural, electrical, mechanical, communications and systems engineering disciplines.
  • Review technical drawings, specifications, design submissions and supporting documentation.
  • Identify and manage security-related design interfaces, technical risks, clashes and integration issues.
  • Coordinate specialist security designers, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Lead and contribute to technical design reviews, workshops and design coordination meetings.
  • Manage technical queries, design comments, actions and approvals through to closure.
  • Ensure security requirements are considered through Safety by Design, constructability and maintainability reviews.
  • Support design change control and assess the security implications of proposed engineering changes.
  • Work alongside construction and commissioning teams to ensure installed solutions align with approved designs.
  • Support testing, commissioning, assurance and final handover activities.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Security Design Manager, Security Systems Design Manager, Security Engineer or Technical Security Consultant with a background in complex engineering, construction or regulated environments.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong experience designing and integrating physical and electronic security systems.
  • Technical knowledge of CCTV/VSS, access control, intrusion detection and associated security infrastructure.
  • Experience managing security design through multiple stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Strong understanding of design management, technical assurance and design governance.
  • Experience coordinating security requirements with architectural, MEP, civil and wider engineering disciplines.
  • Experience reviewing technical drawings, specifications and contractor or supplier design submissions.
  • The ability to manage multiple technical interfaces and stakeholders.
  • Experience working with specialist security consultants, system integrators and suppliers.
  • An understanding of security risk and the ability to translate requirements into practical, buildable solutions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Your Background

Experience within major infrastructure, rail, transportation, airports, defence, nuclear, critical national infrastructure, utilities or major construction programmes would be particularly advantageous.

Knowledge of relevant UK security standards, security-by-design principles and industry guidance would also be beneficial.

A relevant qualification within Security Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Building Services, Systems Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous.

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes and take ownership of technically complex security design across major engineering assets.

You'll work alongside experienced engineering and design professionals in a multidisciplinary environment, with the opportunity to influence security solutions from design through to final delivery.
