Great Britain’s latest Contracts for Difference auction (AR7) has awarded support for 8.4GW of offshore wind, described by government as the largest offshore wind auction in Europe. Ministers said the outcome puts the UK on track for its 2030 clean power ambition and will unlock £22bn of private investment, supporting around 7,000 jobs.
Pricing in the round landed at £89.49/MWh (Scotland) and £91.20/MWh (England and Wales) for fixed-bottom offshore wind (in 2024 prices), while floating projects were awarded at £216.49/MWh. Government also increased the budget during the round, with industry analysis reporting it rose from £900m to nearly £1.8bn.
This is a meaningful near-term signal for the wider built environment. Offshore wind scale-up drives sustained demand across civil engineering, MEP, ports and logistics upgrades, grid connections, and long-term operations and maintenance. For estates and FM leaders, the medium-term story is increased focus on asset reliability, energy resilience, and performance-led operations as more clean generation comes online.
