About this Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join the on-site maintenance team at a manufacturing facility in Cramlington. The role involves delivering planned preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance across building services and utilities systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient site operations.


The successful candidate will support the maintenance of mechanical infrastructure, ensure compliance with statutory requirements and site procedures, and maintain accurate maintenance records using the site’s CMMS system.


Key Responsibilities


Health & Safety

  • Follow site health and safety procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Identify and report hazards and ensure risks are minimised.
  • Ensure appropriate permits to work and documentation are completed for all maintenance activities.


Mechanical Maintenance

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Diagnose faults and undertake repairs to maintain system reliability.
  • Record maintenance activities accurately within the CMMS system.


Building Services Systems

Work across a range of mechanical systems including:

  • Steam boilers and steam/condensate systems
  • Chilled water systems
  • Compressed air systems
  • Pumps and pipework
  • Air Handling Units (AHUs)
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)


Asset & Compliance Management

  • Ensure asset registers and maintenance records are maintained.
  • Support compliance with statutory inspections and service level agreements.


Contractor Management

  • Ensure subcontractors are inducted and supervised while on site.
  • Monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.


General Responsibilities

  • Support maintenance inspections and fault investigations.
  • Assist with ordering and control of mechanical spare parts.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with site stakeholders and respond to maintenance issues promptly.
  • Provide flexibility to support operational needs when required.



Person Specification

Essential

  • Mechanical apprenticeship qualification (City & Guilds or NVQ equivalent).
  • Experience in mechanical maintenance within a commercial, industrial, or facilities environment.
  • Experience working with permit-to-work systems and RAMS.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Basic IT literacy.

Desirable

  • ONC/HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience using CMMS systems.
  • BOAS certification.
  • IPAF licence.
  • Confined Space training.
  • ATEX awareness.
  • IOSH Working Safely.
