About this Role

Civil Engineer – Construction / Site Supervision

Location: Newport, South Wales

Contract: 12-Month Contract

Start: ASAP

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Civil Engineer to join a major construction project in Newport, South Wales on an initial 12-month contract.

Working as part of the consultancy team overseeing the project, this is primarily a site supervision, technical assurance and quality-focused position, rather than a role directly carrying out the construction works.

You will be responsible for monitoring civil engineering works on site, ensuring they are being delivered correctly and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, technical details and wider project requirements.

The project incorporates a range of civil and infrastructure works, including groundworks, drainage, utilities and reinforced concrete, making this a strong opportunity for a Civil Engineer who enjoys being site-based and closely involved with the delivery and quality of construction works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and inspect civil engineering works being undertaken on site.
  • Provide technical oversight across groundworks, drainage, utilities, reinforced concrete and associated infrastructure.
  • Ensure works are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and technical requirements.
  • Review workmanship and construction quality throughout delivery.
  • Identify and report defects, deviations and non-conformances.
  • Monitor compliance with relevant ITPs and QA/QC procedures.
  • Review site progress and highlight potential technical or quality issues.
  • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, designers and the wider project team.
  • Support the resolution of technical queries and construction issues.
  • Maintain appropriate inspection, quality and progress records.

About You

We are looking for someone with approximately 3–5 years' experience within civil engineering or construction, ideally gained in a strongly site-based environment.

You should have:

  • Strong practical experience of civil engineering works on live construction projects.
  • Experience across groundworks, drainage, utilities, reinforced concrete and infrastructure.
  • Confidence inspecting and supervising works being delivered by contractors.
  • A good understanding of construction drawings, specifications and technical details.
  • Knowledge of ITPs, QA/QC processes and construction quality requirements.
  • The ability to identify non-conformances and ensure works meet the approved design.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, subcontractors, designers and other project stakeholders.
  • Previous data centre project experience would be highly advantageous, although this is not essential.

The Opportunity

This is an initial 12-month contract working on a significant construction programme in Newport, South Wales.

The requirement is immediate, so candidates who are available now or able to start at short notice are particularly encouraged to apply.
