Our client, a well-established and growing construction contractor, is seeking an experienced Pre-Construction Manager to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially aware and technically capable professional to lead the pre-construction process from initial enquiry through to project handover to the operational delivery team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in securing and developing projects, managing bids and tenders, coordinating design development, and ensuring robust planning and commercial strategies are in place before construction commences.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the pre-construction process for multiple projects across a range of sectors.
- Review tender opportunities and determine bid strategies in collaboration with senior stakeholders.
- Coordinate and manage the preparation of high-quality tender submissions, ensuring compliance with client requirements and deadlines.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal departments throughout the pre-construction phase.
- Manage and coordinate design development, value engineering exercises, and buildability reviews.
- Oversee the preparation of project programmes, logistics plans, risk assessments, and methodology proposals.
- Support estimating and commercial teams in the development of cost plans and pricing strategies.
- Identify project risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation strategies where appropriate.
- Attend client meetings, presentations, and interviews as part of the bid process.
- Ensure smooth project transition from pre-construction to delivery teams, maintaining continuity of information and objectives.
- Promote best practice, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the pre-construction function.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in a Pre-Construction Manager, Bid Manager, Design Manager, or similar role within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, procurement routes, and project delivery processes.
- Experience managing competitive tenders, negotiated projects, and framework opportunities.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documentation.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify risks and opportunities during the pre-construction phase.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant construction management software.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
