Equans has been appointed to deliver a comprehensive suite of infrastructure support services on Yorkshire GREEN, part of National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade programme. Yorkshire GREEN is designed to upgrade and reinforce the high-voltage network in Yorkshire to improve the transfer of clean energy across the country.
Under the wider scheme, Murphy has been appointed to design and build two 400/275kV substations near Leeds and York. Equans will support delivery through specialist services across ecology, archaeology, BREEAM and arboriculture, helping the programme manage risk and meet statutory requirements.
A core element of the contract is Equans’ digital monitoring capability, using data management and reporting to track noise, vibration and air quality. The aim is to maintain continuous environmental compliance as work progresses on site.
National Grid has also set out that Yorkshire GREEN will deliver minimum 10% biodiversity net gain, alongside a community grant programme for local social, economic and environmental projects.
Work on Yorkshire GREEN is expected to last around three years, and Equans notes the relationship has also extended onto other National Grid schemes including North London Bundles Overhead Lines and 4ZB North Wales.
