As Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the success of large-scale service delivery contracts. Working closely with the Head of Commercial, Senior Commercial Manager, and regional delivery teams, you will be responsible for achieving commercial targets, driving efficiencies, and ensuring rigorous cost control. You will take ownership of variation and change control processes, ensuring that revenue is captured and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
Your expertise will be central to ensuring contract performance, maintaining profitability, and effectively managing risk. This is a highly collaborative role requiring excellent commercial judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to influence key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial Leadership
Manage commercial aspects of contracts to ensure performance targets are achieved and sustained.
Identify efficiencies and opportunities to maximise profitability.
Provide commercial insight and recommendations to support business strategy and decision-making.
Variation & Change Control
Lead proactive management of variation and change processes.
Ensure all revenue opportunities are captured and reconciled in a timely, accurate manner.
Liaise with client representatives to agree on inclusions, exclusions, and reconciliations.
Financial & Contract Management
Support finance teams in managing cashflow across projects.
Monitor costs and budgets, applying robust governance processes to ensure compliance.
Interpret and apply complex contractual and financial documentation to protect business interests.
Subcontractor & Supply Chain Management
Oversee subcontractor relationships, from tendering and order placement to payments and compliance.
Ensure statutory and contractual obligations are fully met.
Negotiate effectively to achieve best value outcomes.
Risk & Opportunity Management
Analyse commercial risks and opportunities and provide clear reporting to senior management.
Develop and implement mitigation strategies to protect financial performance.
Ensure potential commercial impacts are fully understood and addressed.
Reporting & Governance
Deliver clear, accurate commercial reports to inform leadership and support decision-making.
Ensure adherence to governance and compliance requirements.
Contribute to bid, tender, and pricing activities to support future growth.
What You’ll Bring
We are looking for a commercially focused individual with a strong technical background and the confidence to operate in a complex, high-value contract environment. You will need:
Proven experience in commercial management within large-scale contracts or projects.
A strong understanding of UK contract and commercial law.
Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
A track record of managing variation, change control, and commercial reporting processes.
Strong financial acumen with the ability to interpret and apply complex commercial and contractual documentation.
Experience of managing subcontractor and supplier relationships, ensuring compliance and value for money.
Analytical ability to interrogate data, identify trends, and support effective decision-making.
Qualifications & Experience
Ideally degree-qualified in Law, Quantity Surveying, the Built Environment, or a related field.
Professional qualifications (or equivalent experience) in commercial, legal, or financial disciplines are advantageous.
Demonstrable experience in commercial management within a service delivery, construction, or infrastructure environment.
