We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Senior Business Development Manager to lead growth across Energy Management Services, Energy Performance Contracts (EPCs), Demand Side Response (DSR), and Smart Grid participation. This role will focus on developing new business, expanding key accounts, and driving energy transformation partnerships.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering £2 million in annualised sales, building strong relationships with senior stakeholders, and positioning the company as a trusted partner for organisations pursuing decarbonisation, cost reduction, and sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales Delivery
Identify, target, and secure new opportunities across both public and private sectors for energy management, EPCs, DSR, and Smart Grid participation.
Consistently achieve and exceed a personal annual revenue target of £2 million.
Build and manage a robust sales pipeline through proactive lead generation, strategic networking, and leveraging existing client relationships.
Lead the end-to-end sales cycle—from initial prospecting and qualification through to bid development, pricing strategy, presentations, contract negotiation, and deal closure.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth handover of secured projects into delivery.
Client Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with senior decision-makers including CFOs, COOs, Sustainability Directors, and Estate Managers.
Gain a deep understanding of client priorities in cost efficiency, carbon reduction, compliance, and ESG performance, tailoring solutions that deliver measurable value.
Act as a trusted advisor, positioning the business as a long-term strategic partner for energy transformation and sustainability.
Identify opportunities for cross-selling and integration of related consulting, technical, and operational services to maximise client value.
Internal Collaboration
Work closely with technical experts, engineers, and solution architects to design and present compelling, deliverable solutions that meet client needs.
Partner with the marketing and communications teams to support targeted campaigns, case studies, and thought leadership that strengthen market presence and lead generation.
Maintain accurate sales forecasts and report on pipeline health, progress, and market intelligence using CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce).
Collaborate with finance, legal, and delivery teams to ensure commercial viability and compliance of all proposed contracts.
Market & Sector Insight
Stay informed about energy market trends, policy changes, and funding opportunities relevant to sustainability, energy efficiency, and decarbonisation.
Identify emerging sectors, technologies, and frameworks that can shape new propositions or open new markets.
Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and forums, contributing to discussions on the energy transition and promoting thought leadership.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Proven success in a business development or sales leadership role, consistently achieving or exceeding £1 million+ in annual revenue.
In-depth understanding of energy management, EPCs, DSR, or related sustainability solutions.
Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to develop profitable, scalable business models.
Experience in complex solution selling, including proposal development, bid management, and contract negotiation.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, capable of influencing C-suite executives and building trust-based relationships.
Strategic thinker with a track record of delivering transformational energy or decarbonisation projects.
Highly self-motivated, proactive, and results-focused, with strong time management and prioritisation abilities.
Desirable
Degree in Business, Engineering, Energy, or a related discipline.
Membership or affiliation with professional bodies such as the Energy Institute, CIBSE, or IEMA.
Evidence of ongoing professional development (CPD) in energy management, net zero, or sustainability.
Familiarity with public sector procurement, frameworks, and funding mechanisms.
