The Electrical Technical Services Manager provides specialist leadership, technical expertise, and operational oversight across all aspects of electrical maintenance. This role ensures the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance activities, acting as the technical authority for all electrical systems. You will support maintenance teams, contractors, and stakeholders by providing professional advice, clear direction, and strong supervision to deliver service excellence and full statutory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Technical Oversight
Lead and supervise a team of Maintenance Engineers responsible for mechanical, electrical, and building fabric maintenance, with direct accountability for electrical systems, plant, and equipment.
Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager and Supervisors to develop maintenance strategies, schedules, and improvement programmes that align with departmental goals, statutory requirements, and industry best practice.
Establish and maintain maintenance standards, systems, and processes to support continuous improvement and performance monitoring.
Contractor and Project Management
Manage external contractors to ensure work is delivered safely, on time, and within specification.
Oversee all stages of project delivery including commissioning, documentation, staff training, updates to asset registers, and PPM schedules.
Manage post-project requirements such as defect resolution and performance monitoring.
Compliance and Safety
Serve as the designated Duty Holder, Authorised, Responsible, or Competent Person for electrical systems, ensuring all compliance checks and actions are completed and documented.
Maintain an up-to-date understanding of relevant legislation and standards, ensuring Risk Assessments and Method Statements are current and effective.
Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring all electrical works follow Safe Systems of Work, RAMS, and relevant safety protocols.
Review inspection reports and certification, ensuring remedial tasks and statutory actions are accurately logged and resolved through the CAFM system.
Team Development and Performance
Support the professional development of maintenance staff through mentoring, toolbox talks, and technical bulletins.
Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement across the team.
Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and recognise high performance while addressing any areas for improvement.
What You’ll Bring
Essential Requirements
Qualified to 18th Edition standards (BS 7671).
Strong knowledge of electrical inspection and testing (EICR).
Comprehensive understanding of health and safety legislation, including COSHH and RIDDOR.
Proven experience in managing contractors within a maintenance, engineering, or facilities environment.
Excellent communication, leadership, and report-writing skills.
IT literate with experience using maintenance management systems (e.g., CAFM).
Full UK driving licence.
Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise, and allocate workloads effectively.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
Experience with lightning protection, cathodic protection, or other specialist electrical systems.
Formal Health and Safety qualifications (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH).
First Aid at Work certification.
Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IET, CIBSE).
Experience working in secure, complex, or high-profile estates.
