We are seeking a dynamic and delivery-focused Head of Billable Works to lead and enhance the performance of a significant regional programme valued at approximately £150 million. This is a high-impact leadership role requiring strategic oversight and hands-on operational engagement to ensure effective delivery across multiple projects and teams.
The successful candidate will bring exceptional programme leadership experience, proven delivery capability on large-scale budgets (£75m+), and a relentless drive for excellence and accountability. This role will suit an individual who thrives under pressure, inspires high performance, and leads cultural and operational change from the front.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Leadership:
Oversee the delivery and performance of a £150m+ portfolio of works across the South West region, ensuring quality, cost, and time objectives are met or exceeded.
Operational Delivery:
Take a hands-on approach to driving day-to-day delivery, ensuring issues are addressed early and momentum is maintained across all projects.
Financial Oversight:
Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial performance of the regional programme, ensuring commercial viability and value for money.
Performance & Culture:
Lead cultural and behavioural improvements within teams—building accountability, collaboration, and delivery excellence.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify and implement process enhancements that improve productivity, consistency, and delivery outcomes.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Build trusted relationships with clients, partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment, transparency, and effective communication.
Team Leadership:
Inspire, motivate, and develop high-performing teams to deliver exceptional results across the region.
About You
You are a high-energy, delivery-driven leader with a proven record of success managing complex programmes at scale. You thrive in fast-paced environments, maintain a laser focus on outcomes, and bring both strategic thinking and operational discipline.
You are:
Hands-on and accountable – equally comfortable leading from the front and engaging in the detail to keep delivery on track.
Commercially astute – experienced in managing multi-million-pound budgets and driving financial performance.
A cultural leader – capable of shaping behaviours, improving performance, and embedding continuous improvement across teams.
Results-oriented and resilient – someone who refuses to fail, thrives on challenge, and delivers under pressure.
Ambitious and proactive – motivated to make a tangible impact and progress further in a growing organisation.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
Proven track record managing programmes or portfolios of £75m+ (ideally £100m+).
Strong experience leading delivery within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
Demonstrated success in improving operational performance and delivery culture.
Excellent financial management, commercial awareness, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Background in construction, infrastructure, estates, or a related sector (highly desirable).
