Structural Building Surveyor – Ensuring Safety and Compliance of Strategic Structures
Location: Chester, with travel across sites in the North West and Wales
Salary: Competitive + Company Car/Car Allowance
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Are you a detail-oriented professional with expertise in building surveys and structural evaluation? A leading facilities management provider is seeking a Structural Building Surveyor to play a pivotal role in maintaining the safety and compliance of critical infrastructure, including wide-span buildings, ranges, and explosive storage facilities.
The Role
In this position, you will:
Conduct inspections on a variety of specialist structures, including wide-span buildings (e.g. WW2 hangars), explosive storage facilities, ranges, and towers/masts.
Provide expert technical advice and support to site teams and stakeholders.
Produce high-quality technical reports with practical, cost-effective remedial recommendations.
Develop and implement Risk Assessments and Method Statements, ensuring full compliance with Safe Systems of Work and JSP375 processes.
Collaborate with stakeholders to promote efficient, compliant, and value-driven solutions.
Record all activities within the Maximo system, maintaining accurate and auditable documentation.
Engage with compliance managers to broaden knowledge across multiple sites and support continuous improvement.
Contribute to sustainability initiatives by identifying opportunities to support carbon reduction targets through innovative structural solutions.
What You’ll Need
HND (or higher) in Building, Building Surveying, Structural or Civil Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
RICS membership (desirable).
Extensive experience in building surveys of large-span steel-framed and reinforced concrete structures.
Strong technical knowledge of construction materials including steel, masonry, timber, and concrete.
Ability to assess structural condition, recommend remedial measures, and estimate lifecycle performance.
Proven ability to deliver clear, detailed, and actionable technical reports.
Experience supervising site operations, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Eligibility to obtain SC Clearance is essential.
