Structural Building Surveyor – Ensuring Safety and Compliance of Strategic Structures

Location: Chester, with travel across sites in the North West and Wales

Salary: Competitive + Company Car/Car Allowance

Contract: Full-time, Permanent



Are you a detail-oriented professional with expertise in building surveys and structural evaluation? A leading facilities management provider is seeking a Structural Building Surveyor to play a pivotal role in maintaining the safety and compliance of critical infrastructure, including wide-span buildings, ranges, and explosive storage facilities.



The Role

In this position, you will:

  • Conduct inspections on a variety of specialist structures, including wide-span buildings (e.g. WW2 hangars), explosive storage facilities, ranges, and towers/masts.

  • Provide expert technical advice and support to site teams and stakeholders.

  • Produce high-quality technical reports with practical, cost-effective remedial recommendations.

  • Develop and implement Risk Assessments and Method Statements, ensuring full compliance with Safe Systems of Work and JSP375 processes.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to promote efficient, compliant, and value-driven solutions.

  • Record all activities within the Maximo system, maintaining accurate and auditable documentation.

  • Engage with compliance managers to broaden knowledge across multiple sites and support continuous improvement.

  • Contribute to sustainability initiatives by identifying opportunities to support carbon reduction targets through innovative structural solutions.



What You’ll Need

  • HND (or higher) in Building, Building Surveying, Structural or Civil Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • RICS membership (desirable).

  • Extensive experience in building surveys of large-span steel-framed and reinforced concrete structures.

  • Strong technical knowledge of construction materials including steel, masonry, timber, and concrete.

  • Ability to assess structural condition, recommend remedial measures, and estimate lifecycle performance.

  • Proven ability to deliver clear, detailed, and actionable technical reports.

  • Experience supervising site operations, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Eligibility to obtain SC Clearance is essential.
