Mechanical Contracts Manager

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Contracts Manager to oversee the mechanical aspects of a large-scale MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) healthcare hospital project, valued at £48 million. This role requires a highly skilled professional with strong expertise in mechanical engineering and project management. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the project is delivered efficiently, on schedule, and within budget, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.



Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Lead and manage all mechanical contract aspects of the project, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.

  • Planning and Coordination: Develop and implement detailed project plans and schedules. Coordinate with other MEP disciplines, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders for seamless delivery.

  • Resource Management: Allocate labour, materials, and equipment effectively to meet project requirements and deadlines.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all mechanical installations comply with relevant standards, regulations, and benchmarks. Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain high-quality workmanship.

  • Safety Compliance: Implement and enforce strict safety protocols on-site. Promptly address and resolve safety issues.

  • Budget Control: Monitor expenditures, manage financial resources, and ensure the project remains within budget. Prepare and present financial reports.

  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks related to mechanical works. Develop contingency plans for unforeseen challenges.

  • Client Communication: Act as the primary client contact, providing updates, addressing concerns, and ensuring satisfaction.

  • Documentation Management: Maintain comprehensive records including contracts, permits, change orders, and progress reports.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor mechanical project managers, engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors. Foster a collaborative and productive working environment.



Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in mechanical engineering and project management with a proven record of delivering large-scale MEP projects, ideally within the healthcare sector.

  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, codes, and regulations, plus proficiency in project management tools/software.

  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate diverse teams.

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and client-facing communication skills.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and decision-making skills to resolve complex challenges.

  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.

  • Core Mechanical Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering Services

  • City & Guilds 6188 – Heating and Ventilating Industrial and Commercial Systems

  • CSCS Card (Managerial or Professionally Qualified Person level) – mandatory for site access and compliance

  • Certifications:

  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) – required for managing health and safety on-site

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or PRINCE2 – desirable credentials for structured project delivery

  • NEC3/NEC4 Contract Training – familiarity with NEC contracts, particularly relevant for public sector and healthcare projects
