The postholder must have the required electrical maintenance expertise within a healthcare environment, as well as supervisory experience, supported by a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent qualification. They will contribute to the safe and continuous operation of low-voltage (LV) electrical distribution systems, building systems, HVAC plant, and general fabric and grounds as part of a flexible maintenance team. Under the direction of the Technical Services Manager (TSM), the Electrical Supervisor will oversee the engineering team and nominated subcontractors, ensuring effective delivery of planned maintenance, reactive repairs, corrective works, change work orders, and minor project works.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake specialist training enabling appointment as an LV Authorised Person (AP) and other relevant AP/Responsible Person roles as required. They will uphold high operational standards, ensuring all activities comply with legislation, governance requirements, policies, and procedures.
The role also requires the development and maintenance of strong working relationships and proactive communication with all internal and external stakeholders.
Impact
Working alongside the Technical Services Manager, the Electrical Supervisor is responsible for ensuring effective FM service delivery, including the productivity, performance, and overall output of the engineering team and associated subcontractors. The individual must lead by example, consistently demonstrating professionalism, reliability, and strong values. They should be confident in leading diverse teams and setting clear goals at both individual and contract-wide levels.
Complexity
The Electrical Supervisor will share responsibility with the TSM for day-to-day operational delivery. Key duties include, but are not limited to:
Ensuring service delivery meets contractual KPIs and minimises performance deductions across core services such as M&E, fabric maintenance, compliance, lifecycle activities, and minor works.
Supervising the engineering team to maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, quality, and compliance.
Overseeing the quality and accuracy of statutory compliance documentation and all hard FM services delivered by internal teams and subcontractors.
Reviewing PPM documentation and generating corrective work orders as required.
Ensuring correct work order management processes are followed, including clinical access requirements, damage reports, temporary repairs, over-cap works, and variations.
Supporting learning and development across the engineering team, ensuring all mandatory training is completed in line with the Training Matrix.
Assisting the TSM with asset management, ensuring all data, CAFM records, PPM schedules, lifecycle plans, RDS information, and drawings remain accurate and up to date.
Organising and implementing technical work programmes, with a focus on strategic initiatives.
Developing strong customer relationships and acting as a point of escalation for technical or operational queries with client representatives.
Overseeing subcontractor activity for maintenance and lifecycle works, including inductions, performance monitoring, risk assessment reviews, and permit-to-work compliance.
Applying all relevant technical assurance and Health & Safety procedures and supporting the wider team in their responsibilities, including collaborating with QHSE colleagues to address non-conformances.
Conducting regular audits to ensure service levels, standards, and compliance with ISO/OHSAS requirements.
Carrying out AP, RP, or DRP duties in accordance with individual competency.
Providing operational cover during the TSM’s absence or during engineering team shortages.
Supporting management of the on-call rota and participating in the out-of-hours service.
Completing additional works, installations, improvements, planned maintenance, and emergency repairs, including occasional overtime as required.
Qualifications & Required Experience
Full, clean driving licence.
3+ years' supervisory experience within Hard FM services.
Recognised electrical trade apprenticeship (SVQ/NVQ Level 3 Electrical).
AM2 qualification.
18th Edition wiring regulations.
LV AP training and previous LV Authorised Person appointment.
Knowledge of SHTM standards.
Experience working within PPP and healthcare environments.
Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation (SMSTS, IOSH, or NEBOSH).
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
