Are you a skilled Mechanical or Electrical Engineer looking to take on a pivotal role supporting mission-critical systems? Join the Facilities Control Centre (FCC) within the Operations Technical Compound (OTC) and contribute to the smooth, uninterrupted running of essential infrastructure in a high-stakes environment.
What You’ll Do
Working as part of a 24/7 rotating shift pattern and reporting to the Facilities Watch Officer (FWO) Shift Manager, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of key utilities infrastructure to ensure constant availability and peak performance.
Using the CMMS system, you'll track the condition and serviceability of critical plant and equipment. When issues arise, you will coordinate the appropriate response—whether through internal teams or external contractors—ensuring all actions follow established standard operating procedures and are accurately recorded.
A core aspect of the role involves evaluating the effectiveness of Planned Maintenance activities. You’ll assess performance data, report any shortfalls to the FWO, and oversee daily interactions with contractors and in-house personnel. You will also support the development, review, and upkeep of Engineering Operating Procedures for systems overseen by the FCC.
You’ll manage emergency spare parts and generator fuel resources, ensuring adequate supplies are available and replenished in line with station processes.
A strong understanding of facilities infrastructure and its subsystems is essential. You’ll assist the FWO with reviewing procedures, creating emergency action plans, and participating in training and station-wide exercises to maintain operational readiness.
Acting as the duty Authorised Person (AP) Electrical during shifts, you’ll ensure compliance with safe systems of work. This includes planning work schedules, advising teams and contractors on safety measures for high-voltage equipment, and maintaining accurate documentation. You may also support responsibilities relating to mechanical and pressure systems.
You’ll monitor critical platforms such as the Building Management Control System and SCADA interfaces, responding to system alerts and maintaining optimal performance. In emergency situations, you’ll apply the appropriate procedures, make required system adjustments, and document all actions taken.
What You’ll Bring
To succeed in this position, you’ll need an ONC or Level 3 NVQ in a relevant electrical engineering field and at least three years of professional experience. You must hold Emergency First Aid at Work certification and a valid CAT B driving licence. Within two years, you will be required to obtain and maintain the appointment of AP Electrical. Strong digital skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and industry-standard software, are essential.
Desirable attributes include working towards or holding EngTech status with a relevant professional body and experience in highly regulated or secure environments.
