Location: HMP Wakefield, 5 Love Lane, Wakefield, WF2 9AG
We are pleased to be working on behalf of a leading Facilities Management provider to recruit a permanent Electrician to be based at HMP Wakefield.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a long-term public-sector contract delivering critical facilities management services within a secure environment.
Working Hours
The standard working week is 39 hours, with the following shift pattern:
Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 16:30
Friday: 07:30 – 16:00
Saturday & Sunday: 07:45 – 15:45
There is a requirement to work 1 in 4 weekends on a rota basis, which attracts an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary.
The Role
You will be part of a Facilities Management team delivering essential electrical maintenance services within a custodial environment, helping to ensure the site remains safe, compliant, and fully operational for staff and residents.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including associated administrative tasks
Fault finding and problem solving across a range of electrical systems
Undertake like-for-like replacements and minor electrical works
Complete electrical inspections and testing in accordance with BS7671, ensuring accurate recording of results
Ensure all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and operating effectively
Support the Responsible Person and Authorised Person when required
Consistently apply Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work
Assist with escorting duties and other operational tasks as required within the secure environment
Candidate Requirements
City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
BS7671 18th Edition (17th Edition considered with willingness to upskill)
Strong working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and best practice
Experience of planned and preventative maintenance
Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
Strong organisational and time management skills
Ability to work independently, use initiative, and work at height
Knowledge of fire alarm and CCTV systems (desirable)
Understanding of the Electricity at Work Regulations
Basic IT skills
Security Clearance
Successful candidates will be required to undergo Prison Security Clearance, including a Counter Terrorism Check (CTC). Full support will be provided throughout the clearance process.
