The Painter & Decorator is responsible for maintaining both interior and exterior painted surfaces across the campus to a high standard, ensuring safe, professional, and welcoming working environments while meeting agreed service levels and performance targets.
Key Responsibilities
The role includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:
Apply varnish, polyurethane, primer, paint, and specialist coatings to a variety of surfaces.
Select pre-mixed paints or mix pigments, oils, thinners, and drying agents to achieve specified colour requirements.
Prepare surfaces for coating, including masking and protecting surrounding areas.
Blend and reduce paint systems in line with specifications and manufacturer guidance.
Perform interior and exterior painting on commercial buildings, structures, steelwork, and equipment.
Repair surface imperfections and carry out minor remedial works prior to painting.
Install and maintain wall coverings as required.
Undertake basic fabric maintenance tasks as needed.
Safely erect and work from ladders and scaffolding in accordance with regulations.
Operate brushes, rollers, and spray equipment effectively and safely.
Maintain spray equipment, including fitting nozzles, replacing filters and screens, and ensuring proper cleaning after use.
Load and unload materials and tools, and maintain clean and organised work areas.
Protect work areas using drop sheets and masking materials.
Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
Develop and maintain painting schedules and plans for site facilities.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and on-site personnel to support operational requirements.
Take corrective action where work quality may be impacted.
Handle and dispose of chemicals safely and in line with regulations.
Continue personal development to enhance skills and knowledge within the role.
Carry out other reasonable duties as directed by senior management to support business needs.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
Minimum of 2 years’ professional experience in domestic, industrial, or commercial painting.
Good basic numeracy and literacy skills.
Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Physically capable of performing manual tasks associated with the role.
Trained and competent in the safe use of ladders and scaffolding.
Strong time management and organisational skills.
Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
Professional and customer-focused communication skills.
Full, valid driving licence.
